A walk from Manorhamilton to O'Donnell's Rock and back
description.txt
A billboard celebrating the local high school Gaelic football champions. Next to this is a Leitrim flag.
A stone building surrounded by scaffolding. It looks to be under renovation.
A digger next to the stone building on top of a gravel surface. Next to it is a pile of stones.
An old tractor in front of a house. Under the tractor are some LPG tanks.
Some sheep in a field. There is a lamb with them. The sheep are shy, and keep their distance.
A map showing a shared-use walking path from Tuckmillpark to Boggaun.
We find a megalithic tomb on the map, and decide to visit it. Apparently "megalithic" means "big stone".
In the distance is O'Donnell's Rock. The shared use path is quite smooth and pleasant to walk on.
A group of sheep grazing in the shade of a hedgerow. There are more lambs with them.
Benbo, ever looming in the distance. We wonder where the possible paths to ascend it are.
A plantation of pine trees growing along the ridge. Danny says that the pine trees make the ground more acidic, which means that it is difficult for other plants to grow there.
We see a lone hawthorn tree growing in the middle of a field. These are usually left alone for superstitious reasons. The hawthorn tree is regarded to be an entry point to the world of the fair folk, or "faeries".
A piece of wood with moss growing on it.
We see another tree in the middle of a field, with some large stones next to it.
Gasp! It's the megalithic tomb! We can't get any closer, so we marvel at it from a distance.
Another hawthorn tree in the middle of a field. Benbo is majestic in the distance.
Almost back at Manorhamilton and we spot a sign pointing towards the "Arigna Mining Experience". We wonder what that is, and how it sits with the local community and their opposition to the gold prospecting licencing of Benbo.
